Eight Years - its been a dream

This weekend we celebrated our 8 year anniversary -- and yes we are one of those couples who even after marriage still celebrates their dating anniversary (you can never celebrate love too much). And after dating for so long it would have felt weird not to celebrate October 29th when it rolled around. So we agreed not to swap gifts and stick to just dinner. But I can hardly say "just dinner" because he took me to one of the restaurants we have been pining after for the last year - The River Café.

This restaurant caught our eye not only for its Michelin star, but also because we pass it every time we take the ferry to Brooklyn. With each passing we would look into the windows and hope we would dine there one day. Well, yesterday was the day! So here's a little recap of the best meal of our lives...

Upon arriving I was surprised with Champagne service - because Adam really is the most thoughtful man. Additionally, we received a complimentary hors d'oeuvres trio from the chef. From left to right (in non-culinary terms) we had pea puree foam in an egg-shell, mushroom miso soup, and smoked salmon on a toasted wafer.

After hors d'oeuvres, we moved onto our appetizers. The River Café's menu is prix fixe, so we were each able to select an appetizer, entree, and dessert. For our appetizers, Adam selected wagyu steak tartare which came with customized toppings, a quail egg, and toast points. I choose the shrimp and crab, this was presented with corn puree, two shrimp along with a crab and squash blossom.

Moving on to entrees -- we had so many choices it seemed impossible to pick just one. Adam and I always try to get different items so that we are able to try a variety of dishes on a menu. He wanted to have meat, so he chose the duck, while I lean towards seafood and ended up selecting the sea bass. The duck came with a risotto cake topped with brussel sprouts, pomegranates, and a foie gras sauce. My sea bass was served with lobster browed butter, white asparagus, and a lobster croquet. Both of our meals were to DIE FOR and we enjoyed sharing bites of both meals with one another. Our dinner concluded with two desserts, the chocolate bridge and the cheesecake.

Last night was one for the books. After 8 years, I feel more loved and understood than I ever imagined. When Adam told me we would be dining at The River Café, first I was overjoyed and grateful, my next reaction was to immediately check out their menu. One of the sayings posted on their website is "Across a bridge, over a river, and into a dream." This life with him is just that -- a dream.
