The Perfect October Weekend
Like many others, the moment the weather drops below 70 degrees I start acting and dressing like its fall. But the REAL excitement comes when the leaves start to change colors and I get to spend the weekend with those I love the most, and this weekend we did just that!
The start to any good day is a cup of coffee, so hitting our favorite coffee shop in FiDi this Sunday was a must! While Adam habitual drinks espresso shots, I tend to take my coffee the same way I prefer fall mornings: ice cold. La Colombe has quickly become our go-to spot due to their draft latte and brown-sugar syrup.
After reenergizing, we booked tickets for the ferry to Dumbo, Brooklyn. The ferry must be a best kept secret or something, because 1. nobody ever told us about it and 2. for the same price it is undoubtably a better experience than the subway. [Did I mention they serve alcohol?] Ever since finding out about this cheap oasis, we plan our destinations around where and when the ferry stops.
The destination this Sunday was the Time Out Market. Here we found cute shops, lox bagels, and of course more coffee. After wrapping up a filling morning, we decided to hit SoHo for some shopping and then midtown for dinner.
Since our family was in town, we chose to eat at The Smith's. Every New Yorker has an opinion about this chain, but my father really enjoys it, so to the dimly lit, American brasserie we went!
Between the orange leaves, family chats, and food, this weekend was a success. Next weekend we head upstate for another family getaway. We are certainly making up for all of the drinking and family fun we missed out on in 2020.
